Allison is a compassionate, wise expert who understands the science of nutrition and gently guides those who struggle with food and body image to a healthy life of intuitive eating and exercise.
My introduction to Allison was through my older daughter, who struggled with an eating disorder. With Allison’s help, my daughter was able to challenge the “rules” of restrictive eating and become healthy, physically and emotionally. Her journey gave me the courage to address my own disordered and restrictive eating patterns. No one wants to admit to an eating disorder, especially a middle-aged mom who is “supposed to know better”. Allison’s nonjudgmental assessment and plan allowed me to begin my own journey to a healthier attitude toward food and exercise.
Allison is great with younger children and picky eaters. My youngest child was fearful of strong tastes and smells; she couldn’t bear to have “strange” food on her plate. Allison is helping her to bravely try new foods, and she is helping my family avoid mealtime battles.
Allison has changed my life for the better. She has taught me how to have a healthy relationship with food. She has equipped me with methods for overcoming the inevitable day-to-day challenges that arise when it comes to pursuing a life of healthy eating. I especially appreciate that Allison always takes my personal circumstances into account.
I am also grateful for specific recipes and other guidance, such as where to shop for particular ingredients or food items, that Allison provides to me.
I have found that Allison is highly experienced, she is a good listener and she is an excellent communicator. It is also important to mention that Allison is a warm and caring professional with whom it is a pleasure to interact. I recommend Allison and her practice, without hesitation.
When I became aware of some lifelong issues I have with food, I was referred to Allison by my therapist and began seeing her weekly. Since working with Allison, I have been able to identify additional issues I have with food, and I can now work out what I really want, when I want food. Sometimes I’m genuinely hungry, but there are times when I realize it is an emotional desire better addressed in other ways. The most important lesson I’ve learned from Allison: when I eat, I now know I deserve to eat food, and I can make good, nutritional decisions to nurture my body. I can also “feed” myself emotionally in other ways that don’t require bingeing.
Allison works with you as an individual. She doesn’t mold you into her model of health, she teaches you how to get in touch with your own healthful intuition. I recommend Allison to anyone who didn’t grow up learning how to eat in ways they feel happy about, or to anyone who wants to get more in touch with his or her relationship to food.
I can confidently say that the skills Allison taught me have changed my life in the most incredible ways. I came to Allison as a junior in high school, challenged by disordered eating and weight loss. I am now a sophomore in college, and I am proud to say I regard my eating habits as healthy and very satisfying.
Allison helped me understand the importance of intuitive eating and to trust my body. She is supportive at each stride, as I continue to gain confidence in my food choices, my body, and myself.
